- Jane: Honestly, I daydream about in, say, 3 years, being a commercially successful, well respected writer who's pretty and charming and beloved by everyone around me, and knowing that he sees my name and my books and articles I've written and hears people remark casually about how brilliant I am, about how my short stories get to the heart of the human condition, that I'm the Clarice Lispector of the 21st century ... no, BETTER, and that every day he beats himself up for ever having looked down on me when I was 20. I want him to torture himself with regrets.
- Julianne: Why? He seems like kind of an asshole.
- Jane: Which is EXACTLY WHY I hate that he thinks he's better than me!
- Julianne: And assholes rarely have regrets, unfortunately...
- Jane: Trust me, if I ever get to be cooler than him and can rub it in his face, he will have regrets. I can be sure of that. Now then, if only I could figure out a way to do all that 'preeminent writer of the 21st century' stuff in the next three years...
